County Forest Campgrounds
The Taylor County Forest has two campgrounds located in the Northeast corner of the county. Wood Lake Campground is located three miles east of Hwy 102 on Wood Lake Ave. The campground has nine wooded campsites with a picnic table and fire pit on each site. There are vault toilets, a boat landing and a hand pump well. All sites are on a first-come first-serve basis. The campground is located on scenic Wood Lake, 62 acres in size with fishing opportunities for panfish and largemouth bass. No internal combustion engines are allowed on the lake. The park area includes vault toilets, changing rooms, beach and pavilion with picnic tables. The Ice Age Trail is accessible from the campground and pavilion area.
Camp 8 Campground has four wooded sites with picnic tables and fire pits. There is a hand pump well, vault toilets and a boat landing for a small, non-motorized boat. The campground is located next to the 13 acre Camp 8 Flowage and also serves as a trailhead for the Camp 8 ATV Trail System. The campground is located four miles east of Hwy 102. From Hwy 102, take Wilderness Ave east for 3-1/2 miles and at the fork in the road, stay right and take Camp 8 road 1/2 mile to the campground and lake. Overnight stays will be limited to 14 consecutive days at Taylor County Campgrounds.
