Warm Weather Preparedness

Taylor County has identified 5 sites throughout the county where residents can go during extremely warm temperatures. Please [click here] to view the sites, addresses, and hours.

Ready.gov has many resources for different types of emergencies that may occur. Summer can bring extremely warm temperatures as well as severe weather like thunderstorms and tornados. Knowing the signs of heat illnesses and having a plan can reduce the risk of severe illness or death from heat.

Older adults, children, and sick or overweight individuals are at a greater risk from extreme heat.

Have a plan for dealing with extreme heat:

  • Learn to recognize the signs of heat illness
  • Identify places in your community where you can go to get cool
  • Cover windows with drapes or shades
  • Install window air conditioners and insulate around them
  • Weather-strip windows and doors
  • Keep pets safe during extreme heat by providing cool water & shade when outdoors
